1) Samulnori Division (3 categories)

Categories Rules Duration
Elementary
  • ㆍSamulnori, Sitting (Samdo Province, Nongak Garak, Suljanggo, Musok, etc.)
    or Standing (any form of Traditional Yeonhee including Talchum, Jultagi, Musok, Gamyeon'guk, etc.)
    are eligible.
  • ㆍIndividual or group (limited up to 40 people in one group due to stage capacity constraints)
Up to 15 minutes
(for Nongak,
up to 20 minutes)
Middle/High
Adult
(college students included)

2) Composition Division (2 categories)

Categories Rules Duration
Junior
(elementary school,
middle school and
high school students)
  • ㆍAny creative composition based on traditional rhythms (Samulnori, Nongak, Musok)
    (*e.g : Samul instruments and world percussion (bara, drums, timpani, marimba, etc.)
  • ㆍComposition may be combined with different forms of music
    (*e.g : A cappella, marching band, orchestra, etc.)

3) Demonstration Division (2 categories)

  • ㆍOnly amateurs (individuals, club members, multi-cultural family members, etc.) are eligible.
  • ㆍAny types of performance using Samul rhythms.
    (*e.g : Sitting or standing samul, Modeum-buk, Taekwon dance, dance sports, etc.)

Shinbaram Nori
Doo-re Nongak
  • ㆍTraditional Pungmul featuring regional characteristics.
  • ㆍPerformance featuring traditional Yeonhee or folk play.
  • ㆍCommunity/village-sized Pungmul group or Nongak group
Up to 30 minutes

4) Foreigner/Overseas Korean Division (1 category)

Korean Division
  • ㆍForeigners and overseas Koreans are eligible to apply for this division.
    (when applying as a group, citizens of Korea can compose up to 30% of all members in the group)
  • ㆍSamulnori, Sitting (Samdo Province, Nongak Garak, Suljanggo, Musok, etc.)
    or Standing (any form of Traditional Yeonhee including Talchum, Jultagi, Musok, Gamyeon'guk, etc.)
    are eligible.
  • ㆍWhile based on Samulnori, the performance could be combined with different forms of music
    (any musical instruments including traditional foreign instruments, electric, etc.)
